CHURCH NUMBERS consists of every sound I deemed notable from my performance at the Unitarian Universalist Church, as part of their Casual Concert Series on July 15, 2023.

Pulling out all the stops (pun intended), I played for 1 hr 22 mins on the church’s organ, grand piano and violin to accompany my voice. I let time stretch out, and indulged in the luxury of each moment, sound and feeling of this performance. Close to 100 people sat fanning themselves in brutal heat while I performed mostly covers; the titles were written on an easel propped up at the side of the stage.

Covers like these have cushioned my transition into a new phase of sound, where I will go now that these recordings have been finalized and shared. CHURCH NUMBERS depicts moments from my last big presentation before reevaluating the course of my journey through songwriting and performance.

Except for the use of a small skit to introduce the audience to Little cake’s imposed clapping rules, there is scant applause on the album. The flow of music was meant to imitate the sophistication of a concert-style performance, highlighting a sense of focus and meditation.
